Kolkata, Aug. 4 Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) commenced the second quarter of fiscal 2007-08 by registering an all-time best performance for any July month since inception of the plant. According to a communication issued by RSP, hot metal production from the blast furnace stood at 1,91,347 tonnes, crude steel at 1,76,108 tonnes and saleable steel at 1,82,747 tonnes. These figures represent a growth of 8.6 per cent and 6.4 per cent in respect of hot metal and crude steel, respectively, over production in July 2006. Saleable steel output was 20 per cent higher than last July. In July 2007, the capacity utilisation with regard to hot metal stood at 113 per cent, crude steel at 109 per cent and saleable steel 129 per cent. Despatch of steel was at 1,84,674 tonnes last month, a growth of 19 per cent. Steel production and despatch at RSP was 102 per cent and 103 per cent, respectively, of the annual performance plan for July, the communication adds. — Our Bureau
