BAWC on a high

British Airways World Cargo (BAWC) has announced that it has renewed the wet-lease of its three Boeing 747-400 freighter aircraft for an additional five years from Global Supply Systems (GSS) in a deal with total operating costs of over $1 billion. This follows persistent customer demand for increased freighter capacity particularly on high demand routes such as the Asia-Pacific. The combined mainline network of British Airways and BAWC covers 200 destinations in 80 countries.

Earlier in the year, BAWC increased the number of its short-haul freighter services by 40 per cent to deliver a total of 45 weekly wide-body services across 11 European destinations. All this perhaps also indicates that freighters in coming years will play a critical role in the long-term success of the airline.
