Major producer: A farmer harvesting potato at a farm near Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu. India is the world's third largest producer with a production of 2.50 lakh tonnes, after China and Russia. Potato prices have gained over 10 per cent since the beginning of the year on lower supplies and increased demand. Currently, an 80-kg bag costs Rs 270 against Rs 240 at the beginning of the year.
