Exports set to cross $10-b mark

The ITES-BPO industry will reach a new milestone this fiscal as exports are set to cross the $10-billion mark, Mr Kiran Karnik said. The BPO industry, which has seen a good growth in the past few years, notched up revenues of around $8.3 billion in 2006-07.

It has created hope for young people by creating employment opportunities, Mr Karnik said, adding the industry employed 500,000 people last year. It is expected to hire over 150,000 in exports and 200,000 in ITES-BPO sector.

Nasscom has been working to augment the talent pool by coordinating with universities and government to ensure better skill empowerment among new graduates who could be absorbed by the industry, Mr Karnik said.
