Coimbatore, Aug. 8

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organised the ‘iTalent 2007’ roadshow in the city on Tuesday. Over 130 students from various colleges in this region attended the event.

The turnout took the organisers by surprise. Not surprising though, considering that the project designed by a team (each) from two of the colleges in this region figured among the top five award winning entries last year.

‘iTalent would provide an excellent opportunity for students in the semi-urban and regional colleges to be spotted by leading industries. It would also enable the participating colleges to benchmark themselves vis-À-vis the best,’ said Mr Venkatesan Seshadri, iTalent 2007 Steering Committee Member and Vice-President (Talent Acquisition), Cognizant Technology Solutions.

He said that all the top companies had signed up with CII for this initiative.

The event, initially rolled out in August 2004 with full support from the IT industry has entered the fourth edition.

It is open to final year engineering students in the ECE, EEE, IT and Computer Science stream, M.Sc (Computer Science, IT and Electronics) and MCA students.

Addressing students, Mr Seshadri said the contestants would have to submit their ‘project proposal’ (on any IT related innovative topic) by September 20.

After studying the concept notes, an expert committee would shortlist the meritorious entries for semi-finals.

The shortlisted candidates would be given 50 days to submit the detailed ‘project report’.

These again would be screened by an expert panel and the finalists would be invited to make an onstage presentation to a panel of judges from the IT industry.

The final stage of the contest is slated for February in Chennai.
