Showing improvement: Women engaged in transplanting paddy after the flood waters started receding on the outskirts of Guwahati on Wednesday. Despite rains affecting paddy farming, area under the crop has increased 45 per cent this year to 3.3 lakh hectares in Assam. Overall coverage of rice in the country during the current kharif season is, however, lagging behind at 219.89 lakh hectares against 223.03 lakh hectares during the same period last year. —
