Wind up PDS

The National Sample Survey reveals that only a miniscule fraction of the population is buying from the Public Distribution System (PDS) whose operation is highly subsidised. In view of its poor utilisation, the Government can effect huge savings by winding up the PDS and streamlining its associate supplier entity, the Food Corporation of India.

A large portion of the grains procured and stored by the FCI gets spoilt and goes waste due to inadequate implementation of post-harvest technology and poor storage facilities. This waste can be avoided by winding up the PDS.
