Rupee weakens by 11 paise

Mumbai, Aug. 8

The rupee weakened by 11 paise against the greenback on Wednesday to close at 40.52/53, down from the previous close of 40.41/42. The rupee opened nearly 34 paise weaker than the previous close as a reaction to the curbs on external commercialborrowings (ECBs). The currency opened at 40.75; it regained some ground due to dollar selling by exporters and closed at 40.52/53. In forwards, the six-month premia closed at 1.79 per cent (1.63 per cent) while the 12-month closed at 1.82 per cent (1.73 per cent).
