New Delhi, Aug. 9 Engineering major Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged a Rs 2,900-crore contract for supply of equipment for Aravali Power Company’s upcoming Jhajjar Super Thermal Power Project in Haryana.

The order from Aravali Power Company Pvt Ltd — a joint venture of NTPC Ltd, Indraprastha Power Generation Co Ltd and Haryana Power Generation Co Ltd — has been won through an international competitive bidding process, a BHEL release said.

The Jhajjar plant involves three units of 500 MW each and would supply 36 million units of power everyday to the grid on commissioning, to be shared by Delhi and Haryana. “This is the highest value boiler and turbine generator package contract for a single project ever received by BHEL,” the company said.

BHEL has so far won orders for 58 thermal sets of 500 MW capacity, of which 31 have been commissioned, it said. It has embarked on a Rs 3,200-crore expansion plan to enhance capacity to 15,000 MW per annum by 2010 from the current 6,000 MW.
