Payphones in rly stations: Tata Tele wins contract

Mumbai, Aug 9 Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Ltd has won tenders for operating 405 coin-operated pay phones at 30 stations on Western and Central Railway.

TTML will install 220 lines across 21 stations on the suburban sector of Western Railway in Mumbai; and 185 lines at nine stations on the suburban section of Central Railway in Mumbai, said a statement from the company which did not provide the financial details of the contract.

Bidding process

With the bidding for tenders, which started in December 2006 for ‘Installation of coin operated pay phones at various stations for Mumbai Division’; Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Ltd – (India’s fastest growing Telecom service provider in Mumbai and rest of Maharashtra and Goa) on Thursday announced their winning of the tenders in a very close competition with major PCO service providers and other top telecom operators.

The company will install modern public call offices backed by Tata Indicom’s telecom network across the railway stations, said Mr Ramesh Iyer, Vice-President, Sales, TTML.

TTML has a universal access licensce in the circle of Maharashtra and Goa; it provides fixed line, fixed wireless and CDMA mobile services.
