Rasheeda Bhagat Chennai, Aug. 9 In an innovative experience Infosys Technologies has financed the training of 100 qualified engineers from socially disadvantaged classes such as Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes, and facilitated their employment in top companies. Two months ago, on completion of the seven-month special training at the Bangalore-based Indian Institute of Information Technology, IT majors apart from Infosys, such as IBM, HP, Wipro, Cognizant Technologies and Mindtree Consulting, as also two public sector banks, were invited to recruit the 91 engineers who completed the course.“After three rounds, 86 of them have got jobs, some of them even three or two offers. And like anybody else in the IT industry they will be getting a starting salary of around Rs 2.75-3 lakh,” the HR chief and Director of Infosys Technologies, Mr Mohandas Pai, told Business Line in an interview. Some of the engineers “who had offers from both Infosys and Wipro opted to work for somebody else and we were happy to hear this because the intent of the exercise was to empower them and give them a choice. Infosys took about 18, we had made 25 offers.” The funding for this programme — Rs 1.3 crore — was done by Infosys.
