Our Bureau Mumbai, Aug. 10 Very soon you will be able to view best deals and discounts on a particular product in your locality on your mobile phone. The city based start-up firm mKhoj has developed a platform that provides consumers with access to deals from over 15,000 brands retailers, shops, owners and merchants from across Mumbai. The service will be SMS based; the consumer has to send a query to 6767777, charged at Rs 3 per SMS. For instance, if a customer living in Goregaon, a suburb of Mumbai wants to buy shoes, all he has to do is SMS ‘Deal Shoes Goregaon’ to 6767777 and he will be provided with a list of top four deals in the category of shoes from Goregaon. Mobile advertising is known to improve sales for businesses by 10-20 per cent on a regular basis, said Mr Abhay Singhal, Vice President-Business Development, mKhoj. Apart from tie-ups with organised players such as Lakme, Tata Sky and Kobe Sizzlers, mKhoj has also tied up with standalone retailers and merchants in the country. “The merchants can be on the mKhoj system for charges ranges from Rs 500 to several lakhs a month. They have to pay only when their deals are displayed on the customers mobile screen,” said Mr Naveen Tewari, CEO, mKhoj. Mobile advertising is expected to be a $11 billion industry by 2011; India is expected to have at least 10 per cent share of this global market mKhoj plans to expand its services to about 25 cities in the next one year, added Mr Singhal.
