AMR Const to foray into Indonesia, W. Asia

AMR Constructions Ltd (AMRCL), a Hyderabad-based infrastructure company, has firmed up plans to enter Indonesia and West Asian countries for mining of coal and limestone for cement industry.

In Indonesia, AMRCL has formed a joint venture company with a Malaysian partner and is bidding for coal mines, according to Mr V. Surya Sastry, Group Chief Financial Officer.

Core Competence

The objective of taking up the mining activity was to export coal to India and China. AMRCL has already taken some land on lease in Indonesia, Mr Sastry told Business Line.

In West Asia, a cement major has approached the company to take up mining activity. “We will be a contractor to excavate and mine the limestone deposits. Negotiations are in advanced stage,” he said. With core competence in mining and excavation of both limestone and iron ore, AMRCL has done cement mining for India Cements and Grasim among other. It is also executing irrigation projects in Andhra Pradesh.

Huge Orders

The company recently received the ISO 9001-2000 quality certification from Mr Jerry Stillinger, Regional Manager of AQA International, USA.

Mr Sastry said the company posted strong results for fiscal 2006-07 with a turnover of Rs 285 crore, up from Rs 72 crore during the previous year, following huge orders. At present the order book is over Rs 800 crore, he stated.

It has over 750 employees located at its various site offices in Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Tuni, Tandur, and other places. In housing, the company is implementing projects for the Indian Air Force and Indian Space Research Organisation.
