Cos show interest in B.A. Tech Park

Mangalore, Aug. 12 Mangalore-based B.A. Group, which has got formal clearance from the Board of Approvals (BoA) for the establishment of an IT SEZ (special economic zone), is planning to develop 1.5 million sq ft of IT office space at Thumbay (18 km from Mangalore) in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.

Mr B.A. Salam, Chief Executive Officer of B.A. Tech Park, Thumbay, told Business Line that several companies have evinced interest to establish their units at the B.A. Tech Park. One of the major multinational IT companies has shown interest to become the key anchor tenant at IT SEZ.

Asked about the employment opportunities at B.A. Tech Park, Mr Salam said the project would create around 17,000 direct jobs and 2,000 indirect employment. Around Rs 600 crore would be invested in the project over a period of five years, he said.

The IT SEZ will be developed on 35 acres of land owned by the company at Thumbay village. The company is planning to develop around four million sq ft of built-up area at the SEZ. Of this, IT office space and residential space each will get around 1.5 million sq ft, followed by hospitality at 0.5 million sq ft. The company has earmarked 1 lakh sq ft each for convention centres and healthcare units. Another 3 lakh sq ft has been earmarked for retail and other utilities, he said.

He said that B.A. Tech Park has received formal approval from the BoA, and is waiting for the final notification.
