Visakhapatnam, Aug. 12 Picasso Digital Media Private Limited, a Delhi-based company, is offering degree course in animation to intermediate students at its colleges in New Delhi and Hyderabad, and the company is planning to set up colleges in Vizag and Mumbai as well by the next academic year, according to its Managing Director Mr. A.B.R.P Reddy.

At a press conference here on Saturday, he said very few students and parents were aware about job opportunities in in the animation industry.

“Worldwide, the industry is growing at 8 per cent and in India it is growing at 25 per cent per annum. The country at present needs at least 30,000 animators and only 18,000 are available, and most of them are not well-trained. To meet the need, we set up a college in New Delhi to offer degree courses in animation technology. In July this year, we arrived in Hyderabad. By the next year, we will set up colleges in Vizag and Mumbai,” he said.

Recognition

He said the course was recognised by the UGC and the degree would be awarded by Punjab Technical University (Jalandhar). The fee will be Rs 1.5 lakh for the first and third years, and Rs 2.5 lakh for the second year.

The total fee would be Rs. 5.5 lakhs, and the banks would give loans up to Rs. 4.5 lakhs without any collateral security, he said. He said placement was assured and the entry level salaries were in the range of Rs 15,000-20,000 for animators and the prospects for advancement are immense.

Mr Reddy said the company had tied up with a Canadian university for bringing in the required expertise. “Every year it is estimated that India is losing close to one billion dollars as there are not enough animators,” he said.
