A scene from Kuttanadu, the “rice bowl” of Kerala. Paddy cultivation has become non-remunerative and unsustainable due to unstable paddy prices and high cost of production. The Kuttanadu Vikasana Samithy (KVS) has initiated a method of rice-fish rotational farming system which enhances the income of the farmers by 40 per cent with significant savings on rice production and enabling rice farming to be more organic and remunerative.
