Sankar Radhakrishnan

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 13 Asian Institute of Film and Media Studies, a subsidiary of Toonz Entertainment, is looking at expanding its presence in the media and film education market.

The company, which currently operates Toonz Animation Academies in Thiruvananthapuram, Kolkata, Mumbai and Nagpur, is set to start several new animation schools in the next few months. In New Delhi, the company is scheduled to open a Toonz Animation Academy later this month, while another academy will open in Hyderabad in September. The company eventually plans to set up its animation schools in all metros and Tier-2 cities in the country, said Mr P. Jayakumar, Group CEO, Toonz Group.

Also on the cards is an international foray, he declared. The company would like to start animation education institutions in other parts of Asia. It has received invitations to start animation and media academies in Dubai and China, Mr Jayakumar said. The Thiruvananthapuram-based company is evaluating the possibilities in both Dubai and China and will soon announce its plans for these markets, he added.

Besides animation education, the company is also looking at offering training programmes in a number of other media-related subjects, Mr Jayakumar said. The company’s management is currently discussing the possibility of setting up film and media schools in Thiruvananthapuram and Ahmedabad, he added.
