New textile tech upgrade scheme awaits CCEA nod

Our Bureau

Coimbatore, Aug. 13 The modified technology upgradation fund scheme (TUFS) being formed in the place of the one that existed prior to March 2007 by the Ministry of Textiles (MoT) is awaiting clearance from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, according to Mr J.N. Singh, Textiles Commissioner.

The amended TUFS, carrying certain changes to provide greater push to certain sectors in the textile chain, has already passed through the secretary level inter-ministerial committee which has accepted most of the changes recommended by the MoT, Mr Singh said.

Briefing newspersons at a road-show here on Monday on the forthcoming Ministry of Textiles’ ‘Tex-summit 2007’ , the national conference on textiles and clothing industry to be held in Delhi this month end, Mr Singh said the revamped TUFS is designed to give greater push to some sectors including technical textiles and garmenting units.

“We expect the modified scheme would be announced very soon,” he added.
