Mini Pravasi Divas next month

New Delhi, Aug 13

THE first mini- Pravasi Bharati Divas would be held in New York in September this year, the Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs, Mr Vayalar Ravi, said here on Monday. “We have also received proposals from Singapore and Malaysia for holding a similar event there. However, at the moment no decision has been taken on either holding the event in South East Asia or having the mini event on a regular basis.” . The event in New York, which was being organised jointly with the Ministry of Tourism and the Confederation of Indian Industry, would be held on September 23, the Minister added. Meanwhile, the Ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the CII to organise the Know India Programme (KIP) to introduce overseas Indian youth to the culture, heritage, economy and development of India. The KIP which was earlier known as the Internship Program for Diaspora Youth, is an on-going programme of the Ministry that aims at associating the younger generation of the Indian diaspora with the country. —
