New Delhi, August 14 NTPC Ltd, the country’s largest power generation utility, on Tuesday said it has received Government approval for allocation of a coal block in Jharkhand. The Centre has granted in-principle approval for allocation of a coal block in Chhati Bariatu South, the company said in a filing to Bombay Stock Exchange. The share of reserves of Chhati Bariatu South is354 million tonnes, it added. NTPC plans to meet nearly one-fourth of its total coal requirement from its own production over the next ten years. It has already been allocated seven mining blocks, including two blocks to be developed in joint venture with Coal India. In case of the first mining block — Pakri Barwadih — allocated to the company, it has completed all the preparatory works and is awaiting the clearance from the Union Environment and Forests Ministry and approval for land acquisition under Coal Bearing Areas (CBA) Act from the Coal Ministry.
