Mangalore SEZ launches training courses

New scheme for project displaced families

Our Bureau

Mangalore, Aug. 14

As part of implementing rehabilitation and reconstruction policy for the project displaced families of Mangalore Special Economic Zone, the Mangalore SEZ Ltd (MSEZL) has come out with a training programme for students from these families.

MSEZL is a special purpose vehicle formed for the purpose of the implementation of SEZ project in Mangalore.

MSEZL, in association with Karnataka Polytechnic in Mangalore, has launched courses in various engineering streams for 220 students of these families.

Training programme

Launching the course here on Tuesday, Mr I.S.N. Prasad, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of MSEZL, said that this course of five semesters in two-and-half-years will be followed by a six-month in-plant training programme, paving the way for absorbing these candidates in the rolls of various MSEZL units.

Courses will be offered in three different streams — chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, and electrical and electronics engineering — under this programme.

This programme is opening up new horizon and the course offered by MSEZL will elevate the project displaced families and help them take up jobs in various ventures being established in MSEZL.

Employment project

Mr Prasad said the MSEZL and allied units of ONGC understand the importance of employing project displaced candidates on priority. (ONGC is one of the stakeholders in MSEZL).

MSEZL is also committed to take up suitable course for training non-matriculate candidates, where eligible matriculate students are not available, he said.

MSEZL, which got formal approval from Board of Approvals for the SEZ project on July 12, is expecting notification in a month’s time, he said.

Mr B. Nagaraj Shetty, Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister, and Mr M. Veerappa Moily, Chairman of the Central Administrative Reforms Commission, spoke on the occasion.
