TN chamber for Tatas’ titanium dioxide project

Our Correspondent

Madurai, Aug. 14 The Tamilnadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry is strongly in favour of the Tatas’ proposed titanium dioxide factory at Sattankulam.

Led by the President, Mr S. Rethinavelu, a delegation of the chamber’s office-bearers met the Chief Minister, Mr M. Karunanidhi, during his recent visit to the city to participate in the inaugural function of Manamadurai-Rameswaram broad gauge line.

The team impressed upon him the need to set up the factory at all costs as the project would provide the much-needed impetus and acceleration to the process of industrialisation of southern districts. As most of the land owners are willing to sell their lands at market price, the chamber suggested that the lands be acquired through direct negotiation with the land owners and at least one member each of such land owners be offered jobs.

It said a advisory committee should be constituted.
