Jubilant Organosys expands pyridines capacity

Invests Rs 60 crore in Uttar Pradesh’s Gajraula plant

To keep pace with the 20-25 per cent growth rate of its pyridine and derivatives business, Jubilant Organosys is expanding capacity by 23 per cent.

The pharma and custom research manufacturing services company has made $15 million (about Rs 60 crore) investment in the expansion of its pyridines and picolines capacity to 42,000 tonnes per annum at the company’s Gajraula plant in Uttar Pradesh.

“While the international market has been growing only at 2 to 3 per cent a year, our sales are seeing a multiple times growth since we have also captured the share of our competitors by proving superior consistency and reliability of our products,” said Mr Pramod Yadav, President-Advanced Intermediates & Vitamins, Jubilant Organosys.

Global Leadership

Pyridines and its derivatives are key drivers for the company’s pharmaceutical and life science products business and the company claims global leadership for these products.

Pyridines, a building block and a solvent in industrial organic chemistry, and a reagent in organic synthesis, has several uses: in pharmaceuticals such has antibiotics, in anti-dandruff shampoos and in other agro chemical intermediaries used in marine paints.

Picolines, a pyridine, is a raw material used for various chemical products particularly for Vitamin B3.

Jubilant Organosys already has a portfolio of more than 150 derivatives of pyridine. “We are adding more and more numbers through intensive R&D work on new derivatives that are low cost and effective,” said Mr Yadav.

Recently Jubilant Organosys also announced an expansion in its Formaldehyde capacity, which is expected to be operational by July 2008.

According to the company, a key driver for this growth has been the amiable relationships the company shares with all their customers and the confidence they have in their ability to consistently provide them with products of international standards.

According to the company its clientele includes 15 of the top 20 global pharmaceutical companies and 7 of the top 10 agro-chemical companies.
