Chennai, Aug. 15 With a clutch of projects under implementation for beautification of the city and improving civic and social amenities, the city of Chennai will look very different in the coming years, according to the Commissioner of Chennai Corporation, Mr Rajesh Lakhoni.

Speaking at a conference organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry here recently, Mr Lakhoni said in a power point presentation that among the major initiatives are a Rs 800 crore project to improve the canals system in the city (for storm water drainage), a Rs 100 crore project for doing up the 750-odd bus shelters, the Rs 100-crore ecological restoration project for Adyar estuary and a Rs 25 crore project for beautifying the beaches.
