Rail Wheel Factory set to raise capacity

Bangalore, Aug. 16 The Rail Wheel Factory (RWF) here is poised to increase its capacity to meet the growing demand from both the Indian Railways and private sector.

It is expecting funds soon from the Railways board for ramping up its capacity to two lakh wheels by next year.

The year 2006-07 has been the best year in the history of RWF, with the facility surpassing its past records of wheel production to achieve 1.26 lakh wheels.

This was an improvement of 7.5 per cent over the previous financial year, said Mr B.B. Modgil, General Manager, RWF, Indian Railways.

Targets surpassed

In his address to the employees and their families on the occasion of 60th Independence Day, Mr Modgil said the Railway board’s targets of axles and wheel sets have also been surpassed this year, actual production being 58,259 axles and 40,500 wheel sets. The turnover of RWF has jumped from Rs 478 crore to Rs 501.40 crore during this financial year.

High standards

“In recent past, everybody in Indian Railways and Railway Board has become aware of the high standards of production and quality at RWF. They have now started sharing our optimism that RWF can do substantially better with a little help from the board.

As a result we have started getting the required funds and facilities for next year to achieve our dream to produce two lakh wheels per year.”

He said it was recognition of the high standards and quality at the RWF for which he commended the employees for their contribution.
