Trade & Labour Unions States - Andhra Pradesh Bank employees call for ‘comprehensive’ policies
Our Bureau Hyderabad, Aug. 17 The Andhra Pradesh Bank Employees’ Federation will be organising seminars and rallies in all district headquarters demanding ‘comprehensive’ banking policies. “All India Bank Employees’ Association and All India Bank Officers’ Association have launched a national campaign last month demanding extension of rural credit, increase of interest on small deposits, among others. We will be supporting it massively from Andhra Pradesh,” Mr B.S. Rambabu, General Secretary, Andhra Pradesh bank Employees’ Federation, told newspersons here on Friday. Public Petition
About 5,000 bank employees would stage a dharna before Parliament on August 31, 2007, and would submit a public petition with over one crore signatures to the Prime Minister. “Over 500 bank employees from Andhra Pradesh would participate in the proposed dharna in Delhi,” he said. Elaborating on the demands, Mr Rambabu said the main demand was to speed up opening of branches in unbanked areas. “In 2006-07, out of a total 937 new branches opened only two were in unbanked areas. This is highly lamentable,” he added. Other demands
The other demands of the federation include reduction in the interest rates for SMEs, interest free loans for the economically weaker sections, prevention of microfinance activities of the private agencies and recovery of bad loans through stringent measures.
