Science City promoters draw CM’s ire

Springfield Land Corporation and Jurong India, the main promoters of the ambitious Science City proposed to come up in the backward Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, have attracted the ire of the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, over inaction on the project.

The Chief Minister has expressed displeasure over the delay in the groundwork.

No Brokers

Dr Reddy asked the promoters to identify and start purchasing land. They are also expected to start the groundwork as per the MoU signed.

Urging them to avoid middlemen and also speculation in the purchase of land, the Chief Minister asked them to strictly adhere to methods which ensured that the farmers got the correct price for their land, according to an official release.

The promoters have agreed to purchase the land at market price directly from the farmers in order to avoid brokers and complaints, the release added.

Springfield Land Corporation, Jurong India and the consortium involved have agreed to start groundwork for the Science City, which involves thousands of crores of investment.

The meeting was attended by the State Industries Minister, Ms Geeta Reddy; the Agriculture Minister, Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy;, the Springfield Land Managing Director, Mr Bob Sharpeless; the CEO of Jurong India, Mr Rao Munukutla; the Commissioner of Queensland, Australia, Mr David Beckham, among others.
