Medical Institutions & Hospitals States - Andhra Pradesh AP mulls higher salaries to doctors in remote areas
Our Bureau Hyderabad, Aug. 19 The Andhra Pradesh Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Mr S. Chandra Sekher, has indicated that the Government is seriously considering the option of offering attractive salaries for doctors opting to work in remote areas. Speaking at a seminar on ‘Healthcare in New Millennium – PR Perspective,’ organised by the Public Relations Council of India in association with Wockhardt Hospitals, he said that offering higher salaries to doctors working in remote and rural areas would attract them for such postings and help in overcoming perennial shortage of doctors in such areas. He added that the Government has introduced an emergency medical care system and taken measures to reduce incidence of disease, especially in rural areas, with an emphasis on prevention. “Through the inter-sectoral initiative, we are trying to bring co-ordination between various Departments to ensure sanitary conditions, avoid contamination of drinking water, etc.” Mr V. Sudhakar Rao, Deputy General Manager of Central Bank of India, Hyderabad, spoke on the bank’s CSR initiatives. Mr P.K. Davison, General Manager (Operations), Wockhardt Hospitals, highlighted the disease burden the country was facing and the gradual shift in the incidence from infectious diseases to lifestyle diseases, especially in urban areas.
