Our Bureau Kolkata, Aug. 20 The West Bengal Government has decided to set up Green Energy Corporation Ltd to promote generation of renewable energy as well as facilitate private investment in this sector.

The new company will be formed with Rs 5 crore equity capital in next two months.

West Bengal has already lined up a mammoth Rs 11,000 crore private investment in the segment during Plan-XI.

This is apart from over Rs 300 crore to be invested in creating approximately 50 MW capacity by 2009.

Talking to newspersons here today on the sidelines of a seminar organised by the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the State Power Minister, Mr Mrinal Banerjee, said that Green Energy Corporation will be promoted by the West Bengal Power Development Corporation (45 per cent), the State Electricity Board (30 per cent) and West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency (WEBREDA).
