Education States - Kerala Royal group’s catering college in Munnar
Our Bureau Kochi, Aug. 21 Kochi-based Royal group has entered into the hospitality education sector by setting up a catering college of international standards in Munnar. Set up in 100 acres of land at Sooryanelli, the Munnar Catering College has the exact replica of a 5-star hotel facility. The objective of the institution is not only to provide world class curriculum to students in the country but also to attract students from abroad. The Group has invested around Rs 17 crore for the project, which is co-educational, international and residential, Mr Tissan J. Thachankary, Chairman, Royal Group, said. He said the College has received approval from the All India Council for Technical Education and the Directorate of Technical Education for conducting the 3-year diploma in Hotel Management and Catering Technology (DHMCT). A unique programme in which B Sc hotel management and DHMCT are conducted together at the college. Mr Thachankary pointed out that the demand for trained personnel in the hospitality industry is increasing in view of the growth in the hotel industry worldwide. At present, there is only less than 10 per cent of the trained personnel passing out from recognised institutes. By 2012, it is pointed out that there is a shortage of around two million trained persons in the industry, he added. The college also offers 100 per cent placement assistance to all deserving candidates. Munnar Catering College has city centres at Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode – all approved by the renowned Punjab Technical University and world’s largest hospitality education chain AH&LA, US.
