Ahmedabad, Aug 21

The Madurai-based TVS Srichakra Ltd on Tuesday launched its new range of tyres for two and three-wheelers in western India in a bid to increase its turnover by over Rs 100 crore this year.

These tyres were launched, for the first time in India, at Kochi, nearly two weeks ago, Mr S. Balasubramanian, Executive Vice-President (Operations and Marketing), TVS Tyres, told a news conference here. With this new offering, the company expects its sales turnover to increase from Rs 468 crore in 2006-07 to Rs 568 crore this fiscal.

Ranges

The three ranges — puncture-resistant tubeless tyres, polyester fabric tyres (Poly X) and dual tread tyres (Anaconda) — are priced between Rs 700 and Rs 1,099. The company, having a capacity to manufacture 11 million tyres annually, can coat two lakh tyres a month with the new technology employed.

Replying to a question, he said the company expected the market for the tubeless tyres to pick up slowly as these tyres require a leak-proof rimmed wheel which the customer is expected to change to after the traditional tyre lasts in four years or so.

The TVS puncture-resistant tyre, with a self-sealing technology, allows no loss of air pressure in the event of a puncture, withstanding air pressure even with a penetration of any puncture material of 3 mm thickness. Involving no maintenance, the tyres require only regular air check throughout the tyre’s life, he added.

The tubeless tyres can be fitted on to all scooters, scooterettes and motorcycles having alloy wheels. The other motorcycles’ spoke wheels can be replaced with alloy wheels and fitted with the puncture resistant tyres. The other two offerings, dual-tread and polyester fabric tyres, can, however, be fitted on regular rims.
