Human Resources Marginal increase in pvt sector employment
Our Bureau New Delhi, Aug. 21 There has been a marginal increase in the number of workers employed in the organised private sector in the country between 2004 and 2005, according to data available with the Ministry of Labour. The total number of persons employed in the private sector as on March 2004 was approximately 82,46,000. This increased marginally by around 21,800 during the years to touch 84,51,800 as on March 2005. However, in six States the number of private sector workers actually went down while in another nine States the number remained unchanged. The States and Union Territories that witnessed a fall in the number of private sector employment are Punjab (2,61,400 to 2,53,100), Chandigarh (29,100 to 28,500), Delhi (2,19,200 to 2,16,200), Madhya Pradesh (1,58,800 to 1,55,700), Uttar Pradesh (4,44,500 to 4,37,500) and Kerala (5,89,600 to 5,24,900). The States in which the number of private sector employment remained unchanged are Jammu & Kashmir (10,500), Meghalaya (9,300), Manipur (2,700), Mizoram (1,400), Tripura (12,900), Bihar (32,500), Jharkhand (1,50,300), Daman & Diu (12,500) and Andaman & Nicobar (2,700). In the remaining 16 States, the number of private sector employments went up during the year (see table).
