New Delhi, Aug. 21

The Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Mr Dinsha Patel, on Tuesday informed the Rajya Sabha that the Indo-US civil nuclear cooperation agreement has no reference to the country’s ties with Iran.

The Minister, in a written reply to a query whether the US is pressurising Government under 123 Atomic Agreement to cancel the gas pipeline agreement entered into with Iran, said, “In the recently finalised India-US Agreement for cooperation in peaceful uses of nuclear energy, there are no references to any issues related to Iran.”

He said the Government was pursuing import of natural gas from Iran through the $7-billion tri-nation (Iran-Pakistan-India) pipeline.
