Mukesh Ambani calls for new development model

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Aug. 22 “How much has India changed in the last 60 years? Till recently we were talking about low single-digit economic growth rate, now we are talking of double-digit growth rate, we are talking about appreciation of the rupee and investment out of India,” said Mr Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries Ltd.

Delivering the Sixth Darbari Seth Memorial Lecture in the Capital, Mr Ambani said that the country is also talking of demand-driven economy instead of supply-driven economy in the recent past. While these changes are happening, the change must be faster, he added.

“A new India is on the horizon where technology is putting a lot of power in the hands of individuals and a new process of democratisation for various things is taking place.” He stressed on the need of a new development model in the country to fuel socio-economic trans- formation. He added that such a model, which will include the corporate sector, will not only take care of aspects like food and energy security, health and education but also set an example for the rest of the world.
