Pune, Aug. 22 To foster the growing mentoring movement in the country, the Bharathiya Yuva Shakti Foundation (BYST) has developed a Mentor Development Programme for creating a national cadre of quality mentors.

Speaking at the launch of the BYST Mentor Chapters, Ms Anu Aga, Trustee BYST and ex-chairperson Thermax Ltd, said the pilot project is being rolled out from Chennai. She said the package consists of a mentor online training and internationally accredited course and mentor chapters to network mentors across the country.

Ms Aga said through a series of interactive ‘How to’ exercises and case studies would provide a structured learning process. The focus of the mentor chapters, she said would be to help mentors interact with their peers, share experiences and best practices and reach out to entrepreneurs in the community.

She also noted that the success of its first chapter in Pune and Chennai had prompted to launch six more chapters in the Western region today.

Ms Aga also awarded BYST entrepreneur, Ms Pranaya Patil, the winner of the Best Women entrepreneur of the year award by Pravin Masalewale for the year 2006.

Ms Patil, who started her business in 2003 in the manufacture of soft luggages in Saswad, rural Maharashtra, has recorded a turnover of Rs 14 lakh for the last fiscal. She started her operations with Rs 50,000 as the support amount from BYST. Her operations have created employment to around 51 people (full and part-time) in rural areas and is also running 250 SHGs.
