Education DGCA receives 37 proposals for flying institutes
Our Bureau New Delhi, Aug. 23 The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has received 37 proposals for setting up flying training institutes including five from Tamil Nadu, the Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr Praful Patel, said in Parliament on Thursday. The Minister added that the proposals were being processed by the DGCA. Currently, there are 42 institutes in the country of which 26 are operational and provide training for various licences. While 14 are run by various state governments, 11 are run by private entrepreneurs. The licences of 16 institutes were not renewed as they did not conform to DGCA guidelines, Mr Patel said. Exemption for smaller airlines
In response to another question, the Minister said that the Government had decided that smaller airlines operating less than seven flights to India would be exempted from the mandated commercial agreement from January 1 next year. In December 2004, the Government decided that all existing mandated commercial agreements would be reviewed and phased out over the next five years.
