LIC readying plan for girl child

Hyderabad, Aug. 23

The Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) is in talks with several State Governments on introducing an insurance scheme for the girl child. "We have devised a tailor-made insurance scheme for the Karnataka Government, specially for girl children belonging to the BPL (below the poverty line) families," Mr K. Ganesh, Regional Manager (Marketing) of LIC's South Central Zone, said.

Asked whether any other Government approached the corporation, he said talks were on with some States. In some cases, the talks were in advanced stage.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday to announce two unit-linked endowment plans (Profit Plus and Fortune Plus), he said the corporation developed State-specific policies to suite the specific needs. The zone, which comprised Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, ranked first in the country by recording highest growth rate by collecting Rs 1,910 crore as on August 15, recording a growth rate of 76.55 per cent. - Our Bureau
