Our Bureau

Visakhapatnam, Aug 24 The upgraded ship design centre of Hindusthan Shipyard Ltd (HSL) here was inaugurated by the Chairman and Managing Director, Rear-Admiral Ajit Tewari.

Upgradation

Three-dimensional computer-aided design would be undertaken in the centre, upgraded at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore with the latest software. “The centre is equipped with tribon M3 ship design software, autodesk 2008 and other ship-building software.

“This kind of software is being used by the majority of shipyards in the world,” says the press release issued by HSL on the occasion.

Three-dimensional ship designing and modelling “virtually eliminates all the errors/reworks and reduces the ship-building time considerably.”

It will increase the production levels of the shipyard considerably.

Present orders

The shipyard has at present orders worth Rs 2,000 crore on hand.

Therefore, the infrastructure is being upgraded accordingly, adds the press release.
