Sugar Industry & Economy - Exports & Imports States - Maharashtra Maharashtra mills plan 20 lt sugar exports
Harish Damodaran New Delhi, Aug 25 Mills in Maharashtra plan to export up to 15 lakh tonnes (lt) of white sugar and 7-9 lt of raw sugar during the ensuing 2007-08 crushing season (October-September). “During the current season, we have so far shipped out 9.54 lt of whites. Inclusive of another 2.5 lt against outstanding contracts, we will end up doing over 12 lt,” said Mr Prakash Naiknavare, Managing Director of Maharashtra State Cooperative Sugar Factories’ Federation. With the mills expected to crush 844 lt of cane and produce about 97 lt of sugar in the new season — against 798 lt and 90.92 lt in 2006-07 — “we are laying special emphasis on exports,” he said, adding that Maharashtra mills have already tied up for supplying 3 lt of raw sugar to the Indian Sugar Exim Corporation (ISEC) and Cargill. The factories that will start crushing from October 1 will straightaway launch into production of raw sugar for exports.
