Sony targets Rs 100-cr sales in Kerala

Kochi, Aug. 26 Sony India Pvt Ltd is aiming to achieve Rs 100 crore sales in Kerala during the current financial year by targeting a 49 per cent sales growth through product introductions and promotional strategies.

The company had posted a record sales of Rs 67 crore from the region for the fiscal ended March 2007 by achieving a 40 per cent growth in sales, Mr Masaru Tamagawa, Managing Director, Sony India Pvt Ltd, said at a press meet here.

Onam promotion

Mr Tamagawa, who was here in connection with the promotional strategy for Onam, said that the excellent performance achieved by the company from the region was due to the result of solid business performance and aggressive customer focussed strategy especially in the categories of Bravia LCD TVs, VAIO notebooks, Cyber Shot and Handycam digital products.

At present, Sony has a 20 per cent market share in CTV, 40 per cent in digital cameras and emerged as No 2 in LCD TV segment in the State.

The focus this year will be on LCDs and digital cameras. The company is also expanding its dealer channel and service network by 30 per cent from 365 to 475 and also to increase Sony Brand shops network from 7 to 10.

There has been a tremendous growth in the last few years and the company’s vision is to be the most desired brand and to maintain the No 1 market share in the targeted customer segment, he added.

India sales

Referring to all India sales, he said the company had achieved a business of $500 million in 2006 and is aiming to achieve $1 billion by 2009.

Sony has its footprint across all major towns and cities in the country through a distribution network of over 7,000 dealers.
