Labour Reforms States - Andhra Pradesh ‘Change contract labour laws’
Our Bureau Hyderabad, Aug. 26 There can be “explosion of unemployment” if the lacunae in contract labour laws are not addressed immediately, according to Mr Manish Sabarwal, Chairman and Co-founder, Team Lease Private Ltd. Speaking at a meet on ‘Global Competitiveness – Opportunities and Challenges for Indian Labour’ here on Saturday, Mr Sabarwal said contract work forces assumed significance in view of growing work force diversity and decreasing corporate life-expectancy. “The workforce needs of today are largely different depending on the sector. For example, in retail, more sales personnel are needed on the weekends. This is being met largely through unorganised contract labour,” he s aid. The present labour laws only recongised abuse of contract labour but not the benefits. Mr Swadesh Dev Roye, National Secretary, CITU, said outsourcing of jobs (through contract labour) had become a major violation of Decent Work Agenda adopted by International Labour Organisation (ILO). “In the post-liberalisation period, regular operational and production jobs are also being assigned to contract workers along with regular workers. This is posing a serious challenge to the goal of decent work.” . The conference was organised by International Management Institute, New Delhi and Bharat Vikas Foundation, Hyderabad in association with Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
