`Shortage of skilled workers'

Hyderabad, Aug 26 The manufacturing sector is now faced with the challenge of attracting talent, resulting in a huge gap between demand and supply of skilled workers, according to Mr G.V. Rami Reddy, Executive Director, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. Speaking at a seminar on `Engaging workforce for Manufacturing Excellence' organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Saturday, he said `knowledge workers' would dominate the 21st century. Though Indian manufacturing ector was moving in the right direction, speed was the need of the hour, he felt. Mr D. Arun Kumar, President, AGI Glaspac, said engaging workmen in decision-making process would drive excellence in the organisation. Mr Mahesh Desai, Convenor, CII (AP) welcomed the gathering and Mr Saugat Mukherjee, Head, CII (AP) proposed the vote of thanks. - Our Bureau
