IRCTC, Rlys in pact for weekend packages
Our Bureau
Bangalore, Aug. 28 The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) hopes to optimise available resources to cater to the needs of the budget traveller. To this end, it has joined hands with the Indian Railways to make use of unused coaches of train services.
Mr Deepak Chhabra, Additional Divisional Railway Manager – Bangalore Division, South Western Railway, said that coaches have been offered to IRCTC, which can be used as part of weekend packages.
‘Outbound’ packages to Shirdi, Goa and Hampi would be announced from Bangalore shortly, and a tie-up with IRCTC – Bhubaneswar has been made to attract inward tourists to Bangalore, Mysore, Hassan, Coorg and also Ooty from Bhubaneswar, said Mr B.S. Kiran, Deputy General Manager, IRCTC.
A typical four-day-five-night, end-to-end package covering Bangalore-Mysore-Ooty/Coorg would cost the traveller about Rs 5,700, which excludes the train fare between Bhubaneswar and Bangalore.
The outbound packages would be launched in October, for which bookings would start in about a week, he said. Similar tie-ups for inward packages from Mumbai and Chennai were also being worked out, he added.
