‘Green energy’

Your editorial “Greening energy” (Business Line, August 28) rightly emphasised the urgent need for enactment of a separate law for renewable energy.

We can ill afford the luxury of ignoring the importance of solar energy, bio-fuels and hydrogen in meeting the country’s growing energy needs and diminishing fossil fuel sources.

Obviously, the exploitation of these alternative fuels in generation of power requires huge investments initially, especially for research and development efforts.

To stimulate such investments, financial incentives by the Central and State governments are unavoidable.

A special law on this will make matters transparent in regard to all aspects involved so that significant investments, both domestic and foreign, can be attracted. Prompt action in this regard is a prerequisite to take us forward on the fast development track.
