Airtel mobile user base crosses 5 m in Karnataka

Bangalore, Aug. 28 The number of Airtel subscribers in the state has crossed 5 million, the operator announced on Monday.

According to the Cellular Operators Association of India, in July-end, the mobile customer base was more than 5.1 million.

The operator added 2.2 million customers to its network in Karnataka during 2006-07. Half of potential mobile subscribers intend to choose Airtel here, it said. The market share of the operator is now 39 per cent in the circle, up from 32 per cent last year.

It plans to increase the number of distributors in the state from the existing 600 to about 1,500 by fiscal 2008.
