AP directs Mines Dept to speed up coal exploration

Hyderabad, Aug. 28 The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has directed the Department of Mines and Geology to expedite the exploration work of its coal block in Orissa.

At a review meeting with senior officials of Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation Ltd (APMDC) here on Monday, Mr Reddy appreciated the company for achieving high turnover and profit in the last fiscal year and its performance in the current fiscal year.

APMDC had earned Rs 541-crore revenue as on August 20, 2007 as against Rs 527 crore target set by the State Government. This represented a 21.2 per cent growth compared to the same period last year, the officials informed Mr Reddy.
