Our Bureau

Mumbai, Aug. 28 The Centre will open bids for the proposed ultra mega power projects at Krishnapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and Tilaiya (Jharkhand) soon. The Union Government is reviewing other ultra mega projects, said Mr Anil Razdan, Secretary, Ministry of Power.

Mr Razdan said that the remaining projects are being reviewed to ensure land, water and environmental clearances are available. The government is also ensuring that fuel supply is available for pithead-based mega power projects.

Four proposed mega projects have run into rough weather due to opposition from local residents over land acquisitions and environmental concerns. Mr Razdan said: “We are very conscious and responsive to the sensitivities of local population. We would not like start building a project unless the local population is also fully behind the project. It only in this environment that the risk factor of the entrepreneur is mitigated and customers can get minimum tariff.”

Mr Razdan also announced that the power ministry is also in the process up National Power Management Board. It will monitor the power capacity additions done through Central Electricity Agency. It would have a process of online management, which will involve project site and developers, EPC contractors and companies manufacturing boilers and turbines, he said.
