Lower coverage: Paddy harvesting in progress at a field near Thrissur, Kerala. The prices of rice have remained more or less stable despite increase in prices of other foodgrains such as wheat. This, in a way, has resulted in lower coverage of the crop during the current kharif season. Till last week, area under paddy was 278.32 lakh hectares against 281.26 lakh hectares during the corresponding period a year ago. –
