Awards & Honours Indian wins US Food Oscar

Mumbai, Aug. 29 Ms Laxmi Hiremath, a food professional in the US, has won the SoFi trophy for outstanding innovation in speciality foods. Her product: Organic Golden Flaxseed Spread with Dates and Orange Juice won the prestigious annual product award competition at the Fancy Food Show held in New York last month. The competition was organised by the National Association for Speciality Food Trade (NASFT). Ms Hiremath’s product was chosen from among 11,000 products from 5,700 vendors. SoFi is considered the equivalent of an Oscar for food professionals. Ms Hiremath’s business firm Laxmi Delights entered the competition for the first time and was an instant success. A five-decade old non-profit trade body, NASFT is an international organisation with over 2,300 members comprising domestic and foreign manufacturers among others in the speciality foods business.
