New Delhi, Aug. 30 The India-US sector continues to be the biggest money generator for Air India.

The airline earned revenues of Rs 2,865.08 crore during 2005-06 up from Rs 2,413.94 crore generated the previous year, the Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr Praful Patel, told Lok Sabha

.A statement tabled in Parliament shows that during 2005-06, the India-Gulf sector generated revenues of Rs 1,591.04 crore, making it the second largest revenue generator for the airline.

The revenues generated from the sector were, however, lower than the Rs 2,021.46 crore generated during the previous year.

The India-UK sector contributed revenues of Rs 453.04 crore during 2005-06 up from Rs 246.59 crore generated during the previous year, while the India-Japan route logged in revenues of Rs 436.47 crore (Rs 384.65 crore).

Similarly, the India-Singapore sector reported revenues of Rs 147.87 crore, down from Rs 165.69 crore reported during the previous year.

The two newly launched sectors — India-Korea and India-Canada — generated revenues of Rs 121.49 crore and Rs 192.05 crore respectively during 2005-06.

During both the years under review the airlines’ largest revenue generation was from ‘other operating revenue’.

Air India generated Rs 8,833.71 crore as ‘other operating revenue’ during 2005-06, up from Rs 7,588.17 crore during the previous year.

The incomes earned from scheduled services, cargo, mail and charter all contribute towards ‘other operating revenues,’ an airline official said.

Air India operates flights to Bangladesh, China, Canada, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Thailand, US and UK among others.

In addition, the airline has code-share flights to Russia, Netherlands, Turkey, Switzerland, Austria, Australia, Jordon and Mauritius.
